2021-01-27-Pastor Ko’s Update

January 27, 2021

The following was voice recorded by Pastor Ko. Thanks to a sister who transcribed it.

On the Saturday after my last report, I had some inflamed infections and ran a little fever. There are two tubes on my side: one is a feeding tube for food, and the other is a draining tube, which drains bloody fluid from the body to an external bag. We called the doctor when we noticed that the draining tube had a strong odor and was getting worse. On the phone, the doctor said he didn’t know what the problem was and advised me not to eat or drink for the time being until I was scheduled to see him to determine what to do. So I didn’t eat or drink for three or four days which was tough. Thank the Lord, the doctor arranged for me to see him the following week and ordered a CT Scan before seeing him. The doctor said that, although my body had an infection, it was getting better and the results of the CT scan was better than before. He concluded that I could resume my regular daily diet. Thank the Lord!  Because of God’s grace and His own work that, although I had infection and fever, and the doctor not doing anything except for me to stop eating and drinking, through the doctor God let me know that my body is recovering slowly but surely and is constantly progressing.

There was another incident last Friday. When my painkillers were running out, we called the doctor’s office asking for a prescription to the pharmacy for pickup, but later found out that the refilled medicine was only for a day and a half, not even enough for the weekend. Since it was Friday afternoon, it was hard to find a doctor to make the correction. It is always hard to get a hold of the doctor on weekends or evenings, but urgent needs quite often happened at night or on weekends. Sometimes I would call and be told, “It’s okay, the on-call doctor might call you back in half an hour. If not, you can call back.”  But it turns out many times that no one would call back at all. These things reminded me of Psalm 20:7– “Some boast in chariots and some in horses, but we will boast in the Name of the LORD, our God.”  Some people rely on doctors, some people rely on drugs (including me), but these are not reliable, we must put our trust in God, who is our Rock and our Help. To get God’s help, the psalmist said, “We will boast in the Name of the LORD, our God.” It is not just asking God to help me overcome this or that, but most importantly, to often refer to the Name of the LORD, our God, which is to be fully committed to the Lord and allow Him to be “my God”.  Because He is “our God”, we do not have to pray with worry: “Jesus, Jesus, help me” or “Lord, save me”, but to be drawn closer to Him and to know how wonderful He is. God has many names, each of which represents His nature and attributes. When we truly know the goodness of God, we know that God is with us, that His help is coming to us without even being asked.  So “Some boast on chariots, some on horses.” Some people rely on doctors, some people rely on drugs. But as for us, we will always pursue God, meditating on His goodness, His nature, His power, His healing and help will come upon us. Thank the Lord, although I had an infection and fever in the past two weeks, and have not been taking antibiotic, God’s own healing was upon me and I have experienced more of His mighty power and His goodness.
