2021-03-27-Pastor Ko’s Update

March 24, 2021

The following was voice recorded by Pastor Ko. Thanks to a sister who transcribed it.

On Sunday afternoon (March 7) we drove from Columbia to St. Louis, staying at a couple’s house for a night. The next morning before six o’clock, we headed out to the hospital for a CT Scan appointment at seven o’clock followed by a lab test, oncology appointment, and in the afternoon a cancer surgeon appointment. And then a procedure to replace the draining tube. The reason why I had such a full schedule is that I can have everything needed to be done in one day without having to drive back and forth from Columbia to St. Louis too many times. Thanks to the Lord.

During the oncology appointment, the doctor said that based on the results of the blood test and CT Scan, they consider my cancer had been cured because no cancer cells were detected in the tests. So, no further chemotherapy is needed, but a follow-up every three months. Our hearts were filled with gratitude to the grace of the Lord I remembered that about a week after the operation, the cancer surgeon told me that after he had my stomach and duodenum removed, he found that my lymphocytes had some cancer cells and he cut off 35. Out of these 35, five of them showed aggressive cancerous cells, but because my body was still weak and nothing could be done at the time, he advised me to see the oncologist when my body was a little better to evaluate the next step. I asked him at the time, “Will the cancer relapse? He said he had removed the affected parts wherever he could see, so it was 50/50, like flipping a coin. Thanks be to the Lord! This visit to the oncologist has brought great report and I give all the glory the Lord.

The visit to the surgeon in the afternoon went well, too.  The doctor said, “Everything looks fine!” I asked him if we could reduce the feeding tube time by another ¼, from 12 hours to 8 hours? He asked me how my weight was. I told him I had tried to add about five or six pounds as he had requested but wasn’t able to for the past month. I also told him that my average weight in the past had been around 130 to 140 pounds, and it was always quite difficult for me to gain weight. Thanks to the Lord, the doctor said, “Well then, we will reduce the feeding tube time to 8 hours and if your weight dropped next time when you come back for appointment, we will go back to 12 hours a day.”  Please pray for me that I will not lose weight.

I also thank the Lord for experiencing what is said in the Bible, “for I, the LORD, am your healer.” (Exodus 15:26). Thank the Lord for His mighty work throughout the operation process. And I am assured that He will continue His work upon me. Psalm 30:2, O LORD my God, I cried to You for help, and You healed me!” Thank the Lord, not only did I pray. Many brothers and sisters and churches around the world have been praying for me and have witnessed God’s wonderful work upon me. Thank the Lord that He hears our prayers and will accomplish His will when we call upon Him together.

It will take time for my body to gradually recover. The doctor said that my cancer has been cured, but I still need to work on eating more and gaining strength. Please pray for me that in the next two or three months I will no longer have to rely on the feeding tube for supplements, and that both the feeding tube and the draining tube will be removed soon.

Thank you.
